A Decent Supernatural Horror Thriller With Some Genuinely Scary Moments

I watched the Hindi-dubbed version, and while the movie has some strong horror moments and an interesting mythological mystery, the overall experience is somewhat uneven. Code : 29

Story & Premise
The story follows Arjun and his team, who are involved in making documentaries. Their work takes them to an abandoned mansion in London that has a mysterious and disturbing history.
What initially looks like another documentary project soon turns into something much more dangerous. The place is connected to an ancient evil force and a centuries-old supernatural mystery.
Once the group gets trapped inside the mansion, strange incidents begin happening around them. One by one, they are forced to confront terrifying situations while desperately trying to understand what exactly is happening.
The movie slowly reveals the mystery behind the mansion, the supernatural presence and the ancient curse connected to it.
The basic premise is definitely interesting because the horror is connected to old mythology, supernatural powers and an ancient evil presence rather than being just another haunted-house story.
Horror & Scary Moments
This is probably the strongest aspect of the movie.
There are certain sequences where the film genuinely manages to create a creepy atmosphere. Some scenes are quite disturbing and can give you that uncomfortable feeling that a horror movie should ideally create.
What I liked is that the movie doesn’t completely depend on loud jump scares. The atmosphere, darkness, sound design and background score contribute significantly to the horror.
However, the problem is that the movie doesn’t maintain the same intensity throughout.
There are a few sequences where the horror is really effective, but immediately afterward the film slows down and loses some of that momentum. So, while the movie does have some genuinely scary portions, I wouldn’t say the entire film is consistently terrifying.
Interesting Mythological Mystery
One of the better elements is the mystery surrounding the supernatural force.
The story connects the evil presence to an ancient mythological background, which gives the horror a little more depth. The idea of an old supernatural entity being connected to a mysterious object and an ancient curse is interesting.
This part makes you curious about what actually happened and why the characters are experiencing these strange events.
The mystery itself is probably more interesting than some of the character portions of the movie.
First Half
The first half takes some time to establish the characters and the situation.
For roughly the first 30 minutes, the movie gradually builds its atmosphere. Once the actual horror elements start getting stronger, the film becomes much more engaging.
The abandoned location works well for the story, and the director manages to create an unsettling environment.
After that, however, the movie starts losing some pace.
There are portions where the story feels stretched, and the tension isn’t maintained at the same level.
Second Half
The second half is more focused on the characters trying to survive and understand what is happening inside the mansion.
While the pacing remains somewhat inconsistent, the film eventually moves towards its climax.
Thankfully, the climax brings back some of the intensity that was missing in parts of the middle portion.
The second half could have been much stronger if the screenplay had maintained the same tension throughout instead of slowing down in between.
BGM & Technical Aspects
The background music is one of the major positives.
The BGM creates a dark and eerie atmosphere and adds considerably to the horror sequences. In some scenes, the music itself makes the situation feel more frightening.
The cinematography also works well with the abandoned setting. The dark interiors and locations help create the right mood for a supernatural horror film.
However, the VFX/BFX are not always convincing.
Some visual effects feel underwhelming, especially when compared with the atmosphere created through the sound and cinematography. This could possibly be because of the film’s limited budget.
Still, the technical presentation is good enough for most of the movie.
Performances
The performances are decent and support the story.
The characters react to the supernatural situations in a believable enough manner, although some character development could have been stronger.
The film is more focused on creating the horror experience and revealing the mystery than deeply developing every character.

Overall, Asvins is a decent attempt at a supernatural horror thriller. It has an interesting premise, an ancient mythological mystery and a few genuinely scary sequences.
The biggest strength is definitely the atmosphere and background score. When the movie gets the horror right, it works really well. Unfortunately, the inconsistent pacing and average VFX prevent it from becoming a truly memorable horror experience.
