A Sea Mystery With Plenty of Potential, But a Weak Execution
Some movies have a really interesting idea at their core, but the final experience depends completely on how well that idea is developed. This is one such film. The concept of a coastal village where people are afraid to enter the sea because nobody who goes there returns alive sounds perfect for a mystery-horror adventure. It immediately creates curiosity about what is actually happening beneath the water and why the place has become so dangerous. Code : 12
Unfortunately, the execution does not match the potential of the premise. The movie takes a potentially engaging mystery and stretches it with unnecessary scenes, slow portions and underdeveloped ideas. There are a few interesting moments, especially once the story enters the sea, but overall the experience felt more boring than thrilling.

What Is the Story About?
The story is set around a coastal community where fishing is an important part of people’s lives. But there is one major problem. The fishermen have stopped going into a particular part of the sea because the place is believed to be cursed.
People who enter those waters are said to disappear or die, and naturally, the villagers have developed a strong fear of the sea.
That mystery becomes the central point of the story.
The protagonist has grown up hearing about this dangerous sea and has always been curious about what actually lies there. When circumstances eventually push him toward the mysterious waters, the movie gets the opportunity to explore the curse, the supernatural elements and the secrets hidden beneath the surface.
On paper, this is a very good setup for a horror-mystery adventure.
The problem is that the movie takes too long to reach the interesting part.
The Basic Concept Is Actually Good
Before getting into the negatives, I have to say that the central concept has potential.
A cursed sea, a fishing village, missing people, supernatural events and an unexplained mystery can make for a very interesting movie.
The idea immediately makes you ask several questions.
Why are people dying in the sea?
What exactly is causing it?
Is there really a supernatural force?
What happened in the past?
What is hidden beneath the water?
These are the kinds of questions that should keep the audience interested throughout the movie.
But the screenplay doesn’t maintain that curiosity consistently.
Instead of taking the mystery forward quickly, the movie spends a lot of time on the land-based portions.
The First Half Is the Biggest Problem
For me, the first half was extremely slow.
The movie takes a long time to establish the situation and get the protagonist properly connected with the central mystery.
There are several scenes involving the protagonist’s work, the people around him and other characters that don’t create enough interest.
The movie keeps talking about the sea and the curse, but it takes too long to actually explore it.
That becomes frustrating because the audience already knows what the interesting part is.
We want to see the cursed sea.
We want to know what happens there.
We want to understand the mystery.
Instead, the screenplay keeps delaying the actual exploration.
There is a feeling that the writers are deliberately stretching the story to reach a particular runtime.
And that is where the movie starts losing the audience.
Too Much Unnecessary Material
One of the biggest issues is the amount of unnecessary material.
The story could have been much tighter if some of the early scenes had been removed.
There are portions where you keep wondering why a particular character or situation is being shown.
Some of those scenes might have been intended to establish the world or the characters, but they don’t contribute enough to the main mystery.
The protagonist’s journey toward the cursed sea should have been the primary focus.
Instead, the movie takes several detours before finally getting there.
For a mystery film, that can be dangerous because the audience’s curiosity starts turning into impatience.
Once They Enter the Sea
The movie becomes somewhat more interesting once the story finally moves into the sea.
This is where the film had the biggest opportunity to deliver.
The environment is different, the mystery becomes more prominent and there is finally a sense that something strange is happening.
But even here, the movie doesn’t completely capitalize on the opportunity.
Instead of developing one strong supernatural mystery, it introduces different ideas.
At one point there are skeletons.
Then there are ghost-like elements.
Then another supernatural concept appears.
There are also several moments where the movie seems to say that something dangerous exists, but doesn’t properly explain it.
Because of that, the supernatural world starts feeling scattered.
The Main Mystery Needed More Depth
The strongest mystery in the film is connected to the strange sea and what is hidden there.
There is also a cemetery/tomb-related idea that stands out more than some of the other supernatural elements.
That particular concept had the potential to become the backbone of the entire movie.
If the writers had concentrated more on that mystery, gradually revealed its history and connected it properly with the village and the people disappearing at sea, the movie could have been much more engaging.
Instead, several different supernatural ideas are thrown into the screenplay.
It feels as though the movie wants to save some explanations for a future installment while only giving us pieces of the story here.
That approach can work when the first part itself is satisfying.
Here, however, it creates the feeling that the movie hasn’t completely finished telling its own story.
Horror Doesn’t Really Work
Despite being marketed as a horror-fantasy adventure, I didn’t find the horror particularly effective.
There are supernatural elements, but very few moments genuinely create fear.
The movie has the locations and atmosphere required for horror.
A dark sea, isolated coastal areas, mysterious deaths and an unexplained curse should naturally create tension.
But atmosphere alone is not enough.
The screenplay needs to build suspense before revealing the scary element.
Here, the horror portions often feel like they are simply placed into the story rather than organically built.
So instead of being genuinely frightening, many of the scenes become more about showing supernatural imagery.
The Crime and Mystery Elements
The movie also tries to combine mystery and crime elements with its fantasy-horror setup.
That combination could have worked very well.
A proper investigation into why people are disappearing, combined with the supernatural mystery of the sea, would have given the film two layers.
Unfortunately, neither side gets enough depth.
The mystery is not consistently developed, and the crime angle doesn’t become strong enough to carry the narrative.
The result is a film that has several genres but doesn’t completely succeed in any one of them.
The Runtime Feels Longer Than Necessary
This is another major issue.
A movie can be long if the story continuously gives you something interesting.
But when there are long stretches without meaningful developments, the runtime becomes noticeable.
That is exactly what happened here.
There are several portions where you feel that the story could have moved forward much faster.
The movie seems determined to reach a conventional feature-film runtime rather than allowing the story to naturally decide its length.
If some of the unnecessary scenes had been removed and more time had been given to the actual mystery, the movie would have benefited considerably.
G. V. Prakash Kumar’s Performance
G. V. Prakash Kumar is one of the main reasons the movie initially creates curiosity.
However, I felt that his character was not completely suitable for the material.
The problem is not simply his acting. It is also the way the character has been written.
The protagonist needs to carry the mystery and the emotional weight of the story, but the writing doesn’t give him enough strong moments.
There are portions where the performance works reasonably well, but overall I felt that the casting wasn’t completely convincing.
The character needed a stronger personality and a better-developed emotional journey.
Divya Bharathi’s Role
Divya Bharathi is present as part of the lead cast, but her role feels more like something added to support the commercial side of the movie.
The romantic track doesn’t add enough to the main mystery.
This is another area where the film could have saved some time.
When the central concept itself is strong enough, the movie doesn’t necessarily need to add extra commercial elements just to make it feel like a conventional entertainer.
The sea mystery should have remained the priority.
Supporting Performances
Some of the supporting actors do a decent job.
The characters connected to the older events and the village atmosphere work better than some of the present-day portions.
The performances themselves are not the biggest problem.
Even when the actors are doing their best, the writing doesn’t always give them enough material to make their characters memorable.
So I would not blame the cast for the overall weakness of the film.
The major issue is clearly the screenplay.
Music and Background Score
The background score is probably one of the better technical aspects.
It works reasonably well during the mysterious portions and helps create the atmosphere of the sea.
The music doesn’t completely transform the movie, but the background score does a better job than several other technical departments.
For me, this was one of the more noticeable positives.
Cinematography
The cinematography is decent.
The coastal locations and sea-based portions give the film a different visual identity.
There is a clear attempt to create a mysterious world around the ocean.
The underwater and dark-location scenes have some visual appeal, even though the screenplay doesn’t always support them.
The movie definitely had the right environment for a fantasy-horror adventure.
CGI and Visual Effects
The CGI is not particularly impressive.
Some of the supernatural visuals look underwhelming and don’t have the polished finish you would expect from a movie built heavily around fantasy elements.
Considering how important the supernatural world is to the story, better visual effects could have made those sequences much more convincing.
The production values are otherwise reasonably decent, but the visual effects don’t always match the ambition of the concept.
What Went Wrong?
If I had to summarize the biggest problem, I would say poor writing and execution.
The movie has a plot line that sounds interesting when you explain it in a few sentences.
A coastal village.
A cursed sea.
People disappearing.
A mysterious force.
A protagonist who decides to enter the dangerous waters.
That sounds like a proper adventure-horror thriller.
But when you actually watch the movie, the screenplay doesn’t maintain that same level of excitement.
The first half is unnecessarily stretched, the mystery isn’t explored deeply enough, the horror elements are inconsistent and too many different ideas are introduced without proper development.
Could It Have Been Better?
Definitely.
There was enough material here to make a much better movie.
I would have preferred a tighter first half with less unnecessary material and a much deeper exploration of the cursed sea.
Instead of repeatedly delaying the main mystery, the movie should have entered the central conflict earlier.
Once the protagonist enters the sea, the movie should have spent more time exploring that world.
The supernatural rules should have been clearly established.
The history behind the curse should have been gradually revealed.
The characters should have had stronger reasons to continue despite the danger.
And most importantly, the movie should have built genuine suspense.
That would have made the experience far more engaging.
Is It Worth Watching on OTT?
Since it is available on ZEE5, you can watch it at home without having to spend money on a theatrical ticket.
If you are someone who enjoys sea-based fantasy stories, supernatural mysteries or movies involving cursed locations, you may still find the basic idea interesting.
But I would strongly recommend going in with low expectations.
Don’t expect a consistently scary horror movie or a tightly written mystery thriller.
There are a few interesting ideas and some decent technical elements, but the movie doesn’t fully deliver on its potential.
If you are looking for something genuinely gripping, this may not be the best choice.
Overall, this is a classic case of a good concept being weakened by poor writing and execution.
The cursed-sea idea is interesting. The coastal setting works. The mystery has potential. The background score is decent, the production values are acceptable and some supporting performances are fine.
But the movie spends too much time on unnecessary portions and not enough time exploring the central mystery.
The first half is particularly slow, and even after entering the sea, the film introduces several supernatural elements without giving them enough depth.
The horror isn’t scary enough, the mystery isn’t consistently thrilling and the characters don’t always feel properly developed.
The biggest missed opportunity is the cursed sea itself. That should have been the heart of the movie, but the film doesn’t explore it as deeply as it could have.
For me, this is neither engaging nor genuinely thrilling. It is mostly a boring watch with a few interesting ideas scattered throughout.

If you like fantasy-horror adventures and have some free time, you can give it a try on OTT. But if you are expecting a strong mystery, effective horror and a gripping sea adventure, I would suggest keeping your expectations very low.
OTT Details
The movie is available on ZEE5 with Tamil and Telugu audio, along with English subtitles. The Telugu version makes it easier for Telugu viewers to watch, but the dubbing alone cannot solve the problems with the screenplay.
Overall: Good concept, decent atmosphere, but weak writing, unnecessary length and disappointing execution.
