A Promising Idea That Turns Into a Disappointing Watch – Review
There are some movies that start with a concept that immediately makes you curious. The idea of illegal oil dealings, smuggling, business politics and the struggles of a fishing community sounds like something that could easily become an engaging action thriller. Unfortunately, the execution here does not make the most of that potential. The film has a few interesting elements, but the writing, character conflicts and screenplay make the overall experience feel much weaker than what the basic idea promised. Code : 11
I went into this one expecting a proper thriller built around oil smuggling and the business behind it. The trailer and central concept gave the impression that the story would focus on the illegal movement of oil, the people involved in that business and the problems created by it. Instead, the film keeps moving between several different ideas, including the struggles of ordinary people, political elements, business interests, police conflicts and a romantic track.
Because of that, the movie never settles into one strong direction.

What Is the Story About?
The basic idea revolves around the world of oil, illegal dealings and the people connected to that business. There is also a strong focus on a fishing community and the problems faced by ordinary people. The story tries to connect these different elements with the main character and the larger conflict involving powerful business interests.
The concept itself is not bad at all. In fact, this is probably the strongest part of the movie. Oil smuggling and the illegal business surrounding it could have been used to create a gripping thriller. There was enough material here for a story filled with tension, betrayals, dangerous characters and smart twists.
But the problem is that the screenplay does not build those elements properly.
Instead of keeping the central conflict simple and powerful, the film keeps adding different issues. One moment the focus is on oil, then it shifts toward the problems of fishermen, then business politics come into the picture, followed by police-related conflicts and finally a romantic angle.
All these things individually could work, but they need to be connected properly. Here, they often feel like separate pieces placed together.
The Biggest Problem Is the Writing
The main disappointment for me was the screenplay.
The movie has a decent central idea, but the conflicts are not strong enough. Whenever the story introduces a problem, the solution sometimes arrives without enough build-up. Because of that, the situations don’t create the kind of tension that an action thriller needs.
The film repeatedly talks about people’s struggles and their fight against powerful forces, but the emotional impact is limited. The writing feels outdated in several places, almost as if the movie is using an older style of commercial storytelling.
There are moments where the film wants us to feel that something huge is happening, but the actual events don’t create that level of excitement.
That becomes particularly noticeable when the oil-related storyline is mixed with the fishing community’s problems and business politics. The connections between these elements should have made the story richer. Instead, they sometimes make the narrative confusing.
You keep wondering what the movie actually wants to focus on.
Is it an oil-smuggling thriller?
Is it a story about fishermen fighting for their livelihood?
Is it a political drama?
Is it a revenge story?
Or is it a commercial action movie with a love track?
The film seems to want to be all of these at the same time.
The Oil Smuggling Angle Had More Potential
This is where I felt the biggest missed opportunity was.
The idea of illegal oil dealings could have been extremely interesting if the writers had explored it properly. The business side, how the operation works, who controls it, why people become involved and what happens when someone challenges that system could have created a strong thriller.
Unfortunately, the film doesn’t go deep enough into these areas.
Instead, the oil angle becomes just one part of a much larger commercial storyline.
Whenever the movie returns to the oil-related portions, there is some curiosity. But just when you start getting interested, the screenplay moves toward another conflict.
A more focused screenplay could have made this much better.
The Fishing Community Track
Another major portion of the story deals with the problems faced by the fishing community.
Again, the intention is understandable. The movie wants to show how ordinary people are affected by larger business and political decisions. There is an attempt to create an emotional connection between the protagonist and the people around him.
But the writing doesn’t make this conflict powerful enough.
The movie repeatedly brings up the idea of people fighting for their rights, but the scenes don’t always have the impact required to make us genuinely invested in their struggle.
The concept is there, but the execution feels old-fashioned.
Instead of naturally developing the conflict through the characters and situations, the movie sometimes directly tells us what the problem is.
That makes the emotional portions less effective.
Too Many Conflicts
Another issue is the number of different conflicts introduced throughout the movie.
There is the oil business, the fishing community, powerful businessmen, police involvement, revenge, political elements and a romantic angle.
When a movie has several storylines, the screenplay needs to make sure that every thread connects naturally to the central plot.
Here, some of the connections feel forced.
For example, just when you start getting involved in one storyline, the movie shifts its attention somewhere else. This creates a stop-start feeling.
The result is that the movie feels longer than it actually is.
Harish Kalyan’s Performance
Harish Kalyan has already appeared in films where his characters depend heavily on attitude, conflict and personality. Naturally, expectations were there for him to deliver another engaging performance.
Here, his performance is decent.
He gives the required energy to the character and handles the action portions reasonably well. There are moments where he looks convincing as the central character, especially when the story demands intensity.
But the problem is not really his performance.
The character itself is not written strongly enough.
When the screenplay gives him a solid situation, he performs well. But when the writing becomes weak, even the performance cannot completely save the scene.
I felt the same issue throughout the movie. The actors are generally fine, but the writing doesn’t give them enough strong material.
Athulyaa Ravi and the Supporting Cast
Athulyaa Ravi is also decent in her role. Her portions are not always given enough importance, but she handles what the screenplay provides.
The supporting actors also deliver respectable performances.
P. Sai Kumar brings his experience to the film, while Vinay Rai gets a character that initially creates some curiosity. His introduction gives the impression that there could be something interesting coming later.
However, that potential doesn’t completely translate into a satisfying character arc.
Karunas and Vivek Prasanna contribute to the proceedings, while the remaining supporting cast members are adequate in their respective roles.
Overall, performances are not the major problem with the movie. The screenplay is.
Action and Commercial Elements
The film clearly wants to be a commercial action entertainer.
There are fights, confrontations and moments designed to give the lead character a larger-than-life presence.
Some of these portions work reasonably well, but they don’t have the impact required to carry the movie.
The action is not necessarily terrible. The bigger issue is that the action scenes are surrounded by weak conflicts.
A fight becomes exciting when we care about why the characters are fighting.
Here, because the underlying conflicts are not always convincing, the action doesn’t generate the expected excitement.
The Police Track
The police-related portions are another example of the movie trying to introduce additional tension.
The film brings in police characters and situations that are supposed to increase the pressure on the protagonist.
But the screenplay doesn’t consistently maintain that tension.
There are moments where you expect the police angle to become a major part of the story, but then the narrative moves elsewhere.
This contributes to the feeling that the film is trying too many things without fully developing any one of them.
The Romantic Angle
The romantic portions are another element that, in my opinion, could have been reduced.
When the main storyline is already dealing with oil smuggling, business interests and the problems of a community, the love track needs to be integrated very carefully.
Instead, some of these commercial additions feel unnecessary.
If the film had removed a few of these side elements and used that time to develop the central oil-related conflict, the final product could have been much more focused.
The same applies to several other commercial portions.
Technical Aspects
Technically, the movie is not a disaster.
The production has the scale required for a commercial action film, and the locations and visual presentation support the world the story is trying to create.
The background score and songs are present, but they did not make a particularly strong impression on me.
Some of the musical portions may work depending on personal taste, but for me, the music did not elevate the film.
The dubbing also plays a role in the overall experience. Since I watched the Telugu version, a few portions did not feel completely natural to me. It is difficult to say whether that is purely a dubbing issue or also related to the original dialogue and screenplay, but the Telugu presentation did not completely improve the experience.
Why It Doesn’t Work as a Thriller
The biggest thing missing is tension.
A thriller needs to constantly make you wonder what is going to happen next.
The movie has the ingredients for that. Illegal business, oil, powerful people, police, revenge and community problems could have created a very engaging narrative.
But the screenplay doesn’t use those ingredients effectively.
Instead of building suspense around the central business and the people involved, the movie often moves toward predictable commercial situations.
That makes the story easier to guess and reduces the impact of the major moments.
Is It Worth Watching on OTT?
On OTT, the expectations are naturally a little different.
You don’t have to spend money on a theatrical ticket, and you can always stop watching if the movie isn’t working for you.
So if you enjoy commercial Tamil action dramas and particularly like Harish Kalyan, you can give it a try.
The central concept is interesting enough to make you curious, and there are a few decent performances and action moments.
But if you are expecting a sharp oil-smuggling thriller with clever writing, strong twists and a tightly constructed screenplay, this may disappoint you.
For me, the movie had potential but failed to use it properly.
Overall, this is a movie with a good basic idea but a weak execution.
The concept of illegal oil dealings had enough potential to become a proper thriller. The fishing community angle also had room for an emotional storyline. The cast is decent, Harish Kalyan gives a respectable performance and the movie has the scale of a commercial entertainer.
But the screenplay keeps moving in different directions.
The conflicts are not strong enough, several portions feel outdated, the political and social elements are not handled convincingly, and the oil-smuggling angle never gets the depth it deserves.
For me, this is a below-average action thriller. It is not something I would strongly recommend, but if you have time and are interested in commercial action movies, you can try it on OTT with low expectations.
The biggest disappointment is that the film had a much better movie hidden inside its basic concept.
